Jakarta has just witnessed a significant milestone in the journey of Italian photographer Mario Stefanelli, also known as Chateau Muse or @therealgms on Instagram. Two of his limited-edition photographic works have officially become part of one of Asia’s most prestigious private collections, based in Jakarta. This collection is widely recognized for its archive built over more than six decades, featuring some of the most important names in modern and contemporary visual culture.
For Stefanelli, this moment marks further recognition of his position in the global art scene. The works acquired into the collection are valued at over USD 50,000 (approximately IDR 800 million), reinforcing his presence among the photographic works that define artistic standards across generations.
Born in Puglia, Italy, and raised between California and Spain, Stefanelli began his career as an international lawyer before fully dedicating himself to art. Now based in Bali, he also serves as Artistic and Creative Director for several international brands. His elegant and precise visual style has garnered global attention, including a special feature in Playboy France.
Stefanelli’s work is best known through the “1 of 10” series, a collection of photographs from his travels across Europe, presented in a limited edition of only 10 prints, each accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity personally signed by the artist. The series forms a deeply personal anthology drawn from his journeys through Europe — from sunlit days in the Greek islands, the elegance of Hotel Eden Roc in Antibes, tennis courts at Cap Estel, the charm of Portofino and Venice, to the grandeur of Grand Hotel Tremezzo on Lake Como. It also includes the beauty of Splendido Hotel in Portofino, the romance of the Paris–Portofino Orient Express, and the coastal elegance of Santa Caterina Hotel on the Amalfi Coast.
With a visual approach that emphasizes atmosphere, mood, and quiet romanticism, Stefanelli presents photography as a timeless medium, far removed from fleeting trends.
For the Jakarta collector, Stefanelli’s works are more than mere objects — they represent the endurance of true art. “Great photography is like great architecture,” the collector explains. “It’s built to last.”
